Hi! Welcome to Have a Little Something!

What do you mean, Have a Little Something?
Have a little something is an invitation into my kitchen to see how I cook and bake on a daily basis for my family, with some special occasion recipes thrown in here and there. I share cozy recipes that invite you to come in, stay awhile, and have a little something.
It might be a little something to celebrate, something sweet, a little something in the afternoon or before dinner, or a little something FOR dinner. Most of all this is a place for low stress and fun cooking! Having lived in New York apartments without a dishwasher my entire adult life, rest assured that I won’t make you do any more dishes than completely necessary.
A really good cookie that exists is better than one that’s only in your mind. - Francis Lam
Who’s in the kitchen?
Hi! I’m Yossy Arefi! When I moved to NYC 15 years ago, I knew I wanted to make food my life, but I wasn’t sure how. I worked as a baker in a restaurant for half a dozen years, waking before the crack of dawn to take the cross town bus to bake scones and cookies, decorate cakes, and drink so much coffee. Towards the end of my time at the restaurant I started blogging, which turned into authoring and photographing my own cookbooks and working as a food stylist and photographer on other people’s projects. Here are a couple of podcasts where I talk about my work and journey.
I’ve written and photographed three of my own cookbooks, and have worked on countless others. My first book, Sweeter off the Vine was released in 2016, my second, Snacking Cakes in 2020 and my third, Snacking Bakes in 2023. If you’ve ever wondered what it is like to make a cookbook or write recipes you’ll get exclusive peeks behind the scenes and so much more too.
You may have seen my work in the New York Times, Bon Appetit, Martha Stewart, Better Homes and Gardens, on my blog Apt 2B Baking Co, Food52, People Magazine or my books Snacking Bakes, Snacking Cakes, and Sweeter off the Vine.
TLDR: I am a former professional baker, turned award winning blogger, turned all around food media gal, turned award winning cookbook author, turned newsletter writer.
Why pay to subscribe?
People often ask how they can support my work and becoming a paid subscriber is the very best way ($5/month or $50/year). Paid subscribers get access to 4 recipes per month, special features (Cookies!!), the ability to chat and comment, giveaways, and more.
As the priorities in my life and how we all use social media have changed in the last few years, building a fun, supportive, non-judgemental, community about sharing food and recipes is more important to me than ever. I’ll never refer to foods as guilty pleasures or clean eating. It takes a lot of resources to develop and test these recipes and I want to build a community and cook delicious food together for a long time.
Unpaid Subscribers get 1 recipe per month and early access to workshops, events, and announcements.
Paid Subscribers will receive 3 additional recipes per month, access to holiday hotlines where you can ask me all of your cooking and hosting questions (and a holiday cookie EXTRAVAGANZA I have planned for you), the ability to participate in chats and comment on posts, exclusive giveaways, behind the scenes content, and more.
Please consider being a paid subscriber. Come on over and Have a Little Something.
